F350 tire size change

F350 tire size change
I have a 2002 f350 7.3 CC LB SRW with 3.73 gear. I need to put a new set of tires on it. Stock is 265/75/16. I was thinking about going to 285/75/16. My spedo runs a little fast. According to calculations it should equal out just right. I get 18 mpg right now. What would this do to my mileage. I have a edge evelution set on tow. It has two other settings, race, extreme. Also what would a muffler delete do for the truck.

I have a 02 F-350 as well
the stock Firestone were crapola when I bought the truck and I bought Nitto Terra Grapplers, size 305/65/R16 They fit my leveled front just fine in wheel wells on stock Lariat rims. I am now running a 315/70R17 BFG AT KO on a 17x9 ProComp rim they fit, no problem! What tires are you looking at buying? try http://www.tirerack.com/ or www.Discounttire.com

That is about 90% highway, but I was happy with the gas mileage. I just want to make sure I am not going to mess up my mileage to bad. amthatia was your truck stock or did it have mods. What I am wondering is if I switch tires to the 285's and do a muffler delete if it will even out?

old post not sure if you still wanna know but I've read a hand full of reviews on them one is here General Grabber AT2 Tires - All Terrain Tire Reviews all in all they are a budget tire. I was gonna get a set and try them out but decided to go full budget and buy some treadwrights (nothing but good reviews and at 100 each not bad, only negative reviews I found were from people who seemed very closed minded and never tried them) google will help a lot for reviews.
As for the MPG I have 285/75/16 on my 7.3 and got 19.9mpg (calculated by me not the lie-o-meter) on my last long trip (not towing, but a full cab of 6 people and camping gear in bed) I also have 4" full exhaust, custom large air intake, dptuner set on economy, and run amsoil.

I meant to add MPH is the BIGGEST factor affecting MPG. My dually has seen over 18mpg (60mph), but I normally get about 15mpg (70-80mph).

I lost a mph here or there when I upgraded to 285's, wasn't drastic but you'll notice your rolling resistance is cut back a bit meaning, you gotta give it more pedal to make it go of sorts. Its no secret, bigger tires will net you less MPG's. You have to ask yourself, looks or the most practical for your application if you want those higher highway miles. I'm on the fence right now, I want bigger tires but drive 400+ miles a week highway..

I'm buying tires now. Been readin'. Grabbers HTS are number one value, performance vs cost, on Consumer Reports (can't link, subscribe, it's worth it) light truck. (Continental CrossContact 2nd) Of course, if you are looking for best hydroplane resistance, shortest wet stop and and best handling maneuver perf, you're looking at highway tires (HTS allseason) vice all terrain. I've chosen the Grabbers 265/75 R16E for my e99 250 SD. They rate about 450# higher cap each than the OE 235/85 R16E's. Hauling a camper & towing a small boat, so want all I can get. Has 285's on it, Bridgestone.
Actually a big day since my 1-moth old truck (e99 SD SC 178K $7K, Toreodor Red) is gettin' all ball joints, FR bearings, FR brakes, FR springs, 4 Monroe lifetime shocks, tailgate latch, and 5 new grabbers!!!!! Oil & tranny fluids done, air& fuel filters, Peak Global charge & flush coming (and $22/gal for coolant is close to rape!). Been readin' here voraciously! )

You can practically get a Phd in coolant technology, or just read what Gooch has posted over the years for a condensed edumacation.
FWIW, I dunno anything about Peak Global.
Its gonna feel like a new truck!! Congratulations & Enjoy it!!!!!!!
