i just put in the new combo of the 6637 and a 3" downpipe and removing the cat . ive noticed an increase in throttle respnse, fuel mileage jumped 2 mpgs, and obviouse turbo sound even kinda whistles at idle . my question is should i just go ahead and remove the muffler as well and if i do will i notice any power gain or loss ?
I don't think you'll notice much power difference with or without the muffler. Maybe a little. I took mine off cause I like it loud and was easy to just run 4 inch straight pipe exiting right in front of rear tire. The turbo whistle is cool though isn't it!
sure is . I'd love to run straight 4" but i have no money so im pretty sure ill remove the muffler and just run straight 3" stock pipe. how loud is it after the muffler is off ? i dont mind loud ( i ran my 77big block open headers ) i just know when you get some of these diesels to loud i dont think they sound as good
The turbo keeps it down below rock concert levels. I ran without mine for a year and then the wife made me put it back on. It was a bit much for my family car. I loved it. As for the 4" pipe, find some place that wrecks school busses. Find one with a diesel and get the 4" pipe off it. Much cheaper. I did my 4" for $10.
I don't think you'll see too much of an increase in power. My muffler is a straight-thru type with baffles on the perimeter to knock down the dBs. I am sure it impedes flow a little bit, but not much.
