I just recently installed some new speakers in my 99 Expedition, & have decided I need to get an amplifier.
I'm thinking I'll put one under the front passenger seat.
But there doesn't seem to be much room, so was just wondering were other people who have put Amplifiers in their trucks, have put them? And what kind of Amplifer did you use ?
Spike, I put an Alpine 4-Channel (~45 watts/ch) on the left side, under my second row seat. There is plenty of room for this little amp, but the space isn't large enough for the "bigger" amp(s) that I really wanted. Now I've got somewhat improved sound quality. However, I'm nowhere near where I wanted to be, especially after dropping $600 for the amp and 4 speakers.
I put a rather large Soundstream 5 channel in the rear of my 99 XLT. It is right as you open the trunk on the floor at the edge of the trim molding. Of course if you throw alot of crap in the back this isnt a good choice for you. Ran all the cables up the passenger side. If you put a large amp under the rear seat you will hit the amp when the seat is folded down. If you keep the seat down for a long period of time you will also have HEAT concerns. If you dont have rear A/C you can put a HUGE AMP behind the drivers side far rear panel it will be out of sight and stay cool due to its proximity to the outside of the vehicle. There really is NO PLACE to mount an amp in these things. For such a big truck you are VERY LIMITED in your choice of locations. Hope this helped. Good luck
I had Good Guys install my Alpine 5-channel amp under the 2nd row driver's side seat. It fits fine, although you can see it when you open that door. Excellent amp by the way, 4x40 watts (RMS) + 1x120 watts (RMS) for the sub. Sounds great. I only paid $197 after haggling a package deal, but the sticker price was only $250.
stick your amp behind the back right panel. if your putting in a amp for subs do that. that what i did. i took out the factory sub and put in two us acoustic 600 watt amps back to back fits great. use the same screws that were used for the factory sub. i promise that atleast one of any size amps will fit back there. the factory speaker grill that is in the panel give good air flow to cool the amps. trust me it works really well but can be a pain pulling all the panels off. jd
