I used to be able to fix the door ajar light problem by spraying WD40 in the latches. But after a year that doesn't work anymore. And something new started happening also. When I stop I can hear a click under the dash and the dome light comes on. When I accelerate I also hear the click and the dome light goes off. I'm wondering if the click I hear under the dash is just the light relay, and that the real problem is still the switch in the door (driver side ).
Assuming I have to (or just want to) replace the switch in the door, how do I do that. Where is the switch located and how do I get to it?
Mine is doing the same thing. I've sprayed numerious cans of WD 40 PB Blaster. even used my air hose but nothing works.
Surely there are wires going to these switched I just as soon cut them or something to end this once and for all.
Bump !
It looks like some special tool os required to get to the switch.
Does anyone have or know where the wired going to the switch are located, I'd just cut them.
E mail sent .. Thanks
First, thanks to JNT for the wiring drawings. Unfortunately, they don't detail the Door Ajar light, or switches. However, they do show an "Interior Lamp Relay" located in thew "central junction box".
RJ, before you cut wires try pulling that "Interior Lamp Relay" to see if that will stop it from coming on. I may try that to as a temporary fix (if it works) until I can get the real problem fixed.
News Flash!
A local dealer service guy I called says the door switch is attached to the latch mechanism and that the latch can be removed to get to the switch by removing the torque bolts holding the latch. The switch cost $18.50.
I'll probably have the door in pieces on the driveway before this is over which will still be less irritating than the dome light coming on and off as I drive down the road.
Dcara,
I just looked at my latch and the bolts don't look like anything I've ever seen. They have what looks like a pin in the middle of the hole. I can't see any torque edges or anything. What did yours look like ? Maybe a special tool is required.
Thanks,
Robert
I have this same issue...the PO pulled the dome light out of the rig, it's really dark in there at night...lol...my Door Ajar light just stays on all the time...every once in awhile, if i slam em really hard, and hold my mouth right, it'll go out...i thunked i'd just have to live with it...maybe not...hehehe
