im looking into bumping up from the 31/10.50 tire to a 32/10.50, looking at the chart i shold be fine with this. just wanted to know for sure before i ordered them
you can run 33's if you wish. just ad some washers to index your bumper away from the wheel well and you will be fine. it may rub at full turn but you will learn to back off a bit. stay up on your tranny maintenance since your tires will be large and gears stock still. eventually you should plan on a gear swap to 4.10's or 4.56
Going from 31s to 32s shouldn't be too big of an issue, it's only a 3% increase in size. 33s are generally the biggest that most run with stock setups (no lift, etc) so 32s aren't going to cause much of an issue.
You'll see a 3% drop in RPM, so if you're at 2000 RPMs cruising, you'll be at 1950, etc. Not a whole lot of change, or extra work for the engine. That is to say...your 31s really are 31s and the 32s really are 32s. Meaning, my 30x9.5s measured 27 inches! My new 31s measure 31". BIG change.
A ZF5 spd is the only option you have. Unfortunately, your year comes with a mechanical clutch and the ZF is hydraulic, so you have a lot more work ahead of you than just a tranny swap.
hmmmm....anyone know if a older 11" clutch would fit in this 5 speed, or is it necessary to convert to hydrolic clutch and add all the stuff that comes with it?
As far as I know, you have to add everything. I've seen a lot of writeups on the swaps, and no one's ever mentioned making the ZFs (or Mazda 5spd) work with a mechanical clutch.
