I have a 93 Bronco with a 351 and my trans a problem down shifting. It only does it when you step into it for hills or passing, but on takeoff it does just fine. Any help with understanding what is going on with it would be great. Thanks in advance. <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig -->
Mine used to do the same thing. The happier the engine the happier the tranny. After tune up then doing all I could to improve mileage during $4/gallon times I replaced all except one sensor. The transmission continued to improve. Then dropping the transmission pan to replace the filter and fluid smoothed it out and lowered the shift points. Drain the torque converter also.
When you take off from a stop it does start in 1st. If you stomp the gas it down shifts just fine, its when you don't stomp it is when it doesen't want to downshift. Have not pulled the codes, and there is nothing going on with the OD light.
Thanks for the ideas about happy engine happy tranny I will have give it a try.
It could even be the Throttle line, but usually that response comes from an engine that isn't working right. I'm almost 100% this issue has nothing to do with the auto per se.
