when i start my truck it will sometimes blow white smoke and wont build power until it starts to warm up. im not an expert on the 6.0 so if the sluggish start is normal thats fine but im pretty sure the white smoke isent so any help would be great thanks!
Your gonna get asked how many miles, mods, and repairs done to it before you get a whole lot of usefull information.
How many miles?
Any mods?
Any recent repairs?
Also ....
What year?
Is it just a little white smoke at start up or a lot, or a lot all the time?
Can you have someone start the truck while you see if the white smoke has a sweet smell or a fuel smell?
Have you ever pulled your EGR valve?
it is an 2004 and has intake exhaust and has 190,000 miles and had tha injector pump replaced about 4 months ago. and tha smoke it dumps alot for about 5 minutes then stops after the truck starts to get warm and sometimes it dosent smoke at all
pull your egr valve out and check for wetness in the intake.if you see wetness the egr cooler's a goner.when you try to start it first thing does it sound like it's trying to compress water?.if you coolers leaking bad enough it'll fill #7 with water.....i know the sound well.......
white smoke is typical on a cold start-up, 5 minutes worth, might be a little much, when the engine is cold try not to go above 2k rpms, and your turbo will be at higher psi when the engine is cold, i would also run rotella t synthetic or something comparable. with it white smoking that much take it to the dealer and see if it's throwing codes.
My first question would be is how cold is cold start? I do believe that the electronics won't allow full power until the vehicle has warmed up. In regards to the EGR valve being wet, don't assume the worst, but be prepared. Under really cold conditions condensation can build up in the EGR system. Around here a lot of trucks are running winter fronts that block out the radiator. If you try starting a cold truck here at -20C don't expect to drive it away right away. Even after a five minute warm up, the trucks don't really care to move quickly and aren't very responsive. Probably a good idea to clean the EGR valve though.
if u go ahead and do the delete kit,can u and how difficult to re install the egr?
From what I've learned here and from looking around at the delete kits, you could perform the delete of the cooler and replace the up pipe so that no exaust is going to the EGR any longer, and then just leave the EGR in it's original position. However, as I believe BISMIC said, you are likely to still get an EGR code unless you turn it off using a tuner.
