what components makeup the cruise system. i wuold like to put it on my 78. just need to know what to look for as i'm gonna have to piece it together. thanks
The manual says::
The speed control system is composed of the OFF-ON switch and the SET-ACCEL and COAST switches, a servo(throttle actuator) assembly, a speed sensor, an amplifier assembly and the necessary wires, linkage, check valve assembly, vacuum reserve tank and vacuum hose to connect the components.
thank you looks like i got a lot of stuff to find.
Try doing a search for "73-79 ford cruise" on eBay. I see the whole package on there from time to time. You might have to replace a component or two, but it would get you the wiring and all the parts.
Is adding a C/C difficult or easy (if you have all the parts from a donor rig) ? Is it just a matter of plugging in the parts, or if my truck didn't come w/ it, do I have to splice into the woring harness ? Thanks in advance.
what acts as the speed sensor and how does it work?
It is a small sensor that attaches in the speedometer cable. If I remember right it uses the Hall Effect to sense the speed. Then the amplifer takes over and varies the vacuum on the servo to pull the throttle.
