Axle shaft horizontal play???

Spindle nuts, lock washer are all there and torqued to spec. They hold the wheel on the spindle a far as I can see, not the axle shaft. The only thing in the hub that stops horizontal movement for the axle shaft itself is the snap ring that holds the locking hub in place. As for the diff, I was kinda thinking that, but wasn't sure.

Interesting that you have a BJ 60 with the axle snap rings, my 93 axle, and none of the newer ones I've had apart even have the stub machined for it. If the stub is moving and you have the snap rings, you may well need a shim in there. I've seen later D50 TTB's with them in there from the factory... Mind you the 96-97 stuff puts the snap ring and shim on the spindle side of the lockout...

I was looking at a much newer truck and there is a snap ring on the axle shaft with thrust washers. But not mine. I did get mine from a chassis cab and as I understand it, there were D60's on them a couple more years than on reg. chassis. Still don't think that would make any significant difference with this problem. Sorry, I was looking back through my posts and may not have stated it well. There isn't a snap ring on the axle shaft itself, it's on the housing holding the locking hub in place. Also, just wanted to appologize if I came off a little short in some previous posts. Had a really rough week (hospital visits, etc).
