99 explorer gear indicator adjustment

99 explorer gear indicator adjustment

i just bought a 99 explorer and when the vehichle is in park the red indicator is halfway between P and R, when i drop it into drive the indicator is halfway between the D AND 2, is there some kind of adjustment on the piece of string that it is attached to? on the column somewhere? any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks,clarkw123

I have the same, exact problem on my '99 Ranger. I tried bending the cable holding bracket (located on the trans) forward and it helped a little bit, but I'm sure that has to be the wrong way to do it.
