I've been following this thread and am considering this mod for my truck as well. Not for any performance gain (I have the 4.9, so I'd be kidding myself anyway LOL) but for the mileage gain. Let's face it - even if it gains 1mpg it would be huge.
I'm going to hold off just a little bit though... For those of you with cable, check out Extreme 4x4 on Spike. Ian is doing some basic mods on a mid-'90's Dodge Ram, including swapping out the clutch fan for an electric fan, and then he will supposedly be measuring the results on the dyno and on the road.
Should be interesting, no?
