programer comparison???

2004 f-350 v-10 I hear alot of people talking about how they like the 5 star tunning. How about the hypertech max energy. Has any body had or tried these to.?????

I don't care what off the shelf aftermarket tuner you get, the preloaded canned tunes are not going to give your the best performance. I have experience with SCT and Diablosport Canned tunes and they are not even close to the 5 Star tunes I am running now.

I'm running an SCT Xcal2 (Used to be an SF, converted to Xcal) with 5 Star tunes on my 04'. Just got an Xcal3 with 5 Star tunes for my dads V10 to replace the Diablosport he had. (Diablosport has garbage canned tunes)

You guys are 100% right about box tunes, they dont compare to custom tunes, no doubt there..

BUT,

For the money, the superchips cortex is a great tuner, Much better then the diablos, and hypercrap. The cortex has good adjustability, shift points, and line pressure can be adjusted with it, 87 and 93 octane can be used, I like it, ive only had it on my truck for a couple days, but all my customers love them. I may try a 5 star tuner one day to work the difference, but I have a good account with superchips, so they hook us up when we need tuning done.

I can get an Xcal3 with 3 custom tunes shipped to my door cheaper than just the Cortex or any other tuner so its a no brainer to go with the Xcal.

Diablosport has a very good software, hardware and dealer network, their canned tunes just are not good at all. If SCT didn't exist I'd have a Predator with custom tunes.

How is your fuel mileage increase? or did it stay the same?

Your right about the superchips bieng more money.. They are, but what is nice about them, you buy one, you buy one for every ford, making is re-sellable, and re-useable. Which is nice IMO..

Lemme know your numbers..

I'm not running any "Econo" Tunes for mpg, I care about performance a lot more than mpg so I passed on the econo tune. I run 87 fuel so mileage gains are basically the same as stock.

SCT products can be jumped around for use on different vehicles if you get another tune written for it. Some old SCT units don't support the new vehicles but theres a range. SCT units are vehicle specific unless you get the SF (strategy flash) but you can do a one way conversion that converts the SF to an Xcal. Diablosport is a little more picky and arn't as flexible as the SCT.

Diablosport is capable of dyno tuning just as 5-star does. The difference is there are far more dyno tuning centers across the US with Diablo.

I agree the diablo canners are crap but so are SCTs.

I'm aware of that. Was not worth my time trying to find a Diablopsort dealer that is worth anything at tuning and pay at least $125 for three tunes. With what I sold the diablo for and what new tunes would have cost I got a new Xcal with custom tunes.

SCTs canned tunes are far better than the Diablosports in my experience. Diablosports 87 performance tune is completely unusable without major adjustments, the spark knock was way excessive in all rpm ranges. I'm not the only one who have reported these problems with the Diablosport either.

I still like the superchips! getting fantastic fuel mileage gains, along with plenty of power.. Even on 24" rims, and 13.50 wide tires..

I got the Hypertech ECON, and I have not noticed any fuel economy improvements...Thinking about switching to a 5 Star Tune after watching all the posts here about how great 5 star works.

Oh ya anyone interested in a slightly used Hypertech ECON??? LOL!

Superchips is working for me. I wouldn't know the difference though as it is the only tune I have tried. It definetly helps with the tranny shifting.

I like my Diablo Sport Predator, im running the 91 octane tune, and its better than the factory tune. My only complaint is that the gas mileage is 8mpg(diablo) vs 9.5mpg(factory). I have 35" tires w/3.73 gears and it roasts the tires from a standstill with this tune, and hangs w my buddies 400hp cummins.
