1977 F150 Explorer Decoding
Could someone please help me with some decoding info.
F15BCYxxxxx
133 K F150 MD4 G 15J
6050 1977 A4
1977 F150 Explorer Custom.
I know B is for 300 c.i.
133 is the wheelbase.
K is for red.
G is for C6 transmission
15J is for 3.25 axle ratio with power steering.
6050 is the GVW.
Can't figure out what MD4 body or the A4 means.
Truck has Explorer option with white stripes and red/white interior.
Seems to me to be mostly original.
Couldn't find any firewall tag.
Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to figure it out on my own, but got stumped on those 2 codes.
It appears to have had red carpet at one time as well.
I've read the "A", "B","C" & "D" options for the Explorer.
I'm thinking this truck might be a "B" code.
I've also checked around and couldn't find any repro seat covers or factory stripe kits. Anyone know of any sources?
If your truck has FACTORY air and tinted glass it's either a "C" or "D". If it has power steering and a cruise-o-matic transmission it's a "B" package.
It consisted of a bigger heater core.
It was standard on SuperCabs and CrewCabs.
Was a option on Regular Cabs.
The High Output Heater was part of the "Convince/Comfort Group"

I remember seeing the early Explorers at an old dealership in the small town I grew up in.
I remember they ordered them mostly green with the white stripe package. (76's I think.) There must have been at least 5 or 6 in the area.
The 77's they ordered were mostly white with the red stripe and I only remember them being Customs, no Rangers.
Being from central Canada, I find it strange to see the odd pickup without a high output heater.
My '79 F150 Custom didn't have one either, but came with the locking hood mechanism which required the key to lock/unlock it. I've never seen another pickup with this option.
I'm waiting for the build sheet from Ford of Canada for this '77.
If anyone has any brochure information they could post for the Explorer option in '77, it would sure help. I've seen a brochure from '79 on this forum, but found nothing so far on the '77's.

I know I have them for other years...
You are thinking of "Jade Green".
Which is one of my favorite colors for a Explorer.
Remember, sense Explorers were a seasonal package, they were different every year...
I can get ya some for other years, though...
I'm waiting for 81 F150 Explorer to chime in, he's an expert on Explorers.
Locking Hood Release was an option and part of the "Protection Group"
