Great things to be had on CL, great deals.........But,
Just use a little caution if selling items and showing them at your home, a good friends home was burglarized for very "specific" items after showing several items on CL at his home.......he was being "cased" by one of the buyers.
I do a lot of bartering, buying, and selling on CL. If you want to buy and sell firearms or ammo, just say "mens toys" in the barter section. Almost nothing on E-Bay since they changed the feedback rules.

selling firearms on craigslist is not allowed. but i did not think of that
I had some dude from Lagos, Nigeria, try to buy my son's PSP. He put money in the Paypal, and expected immediate shipment via USPS. He paid more than asking. Of course, I never shipped it and told him no sale, and advised Paypal the same. Haven't heard anything back.
So, you should put in your post where you are willing to ship to, if at all--local only, 48 states only, etc.
I use craigslist all the time, buying and selling. As said, your not getting rich, no one on craigslist is looking to pay top dollar but it's a great easy way to get rid of unwanted crap. I've gotten some great deals on truck parts.
Couple things I do which seem to help:
never put your phone number in the ad, you'll get idiots calling all day long that just want to talk about stuff your selling rather than buy, much easier to weed out the flakes if you first email, then call.
Also buy/sell in cash, I'm giving you the item now/in person you can do the same w cash, taking a check is an unnecessary risk on my part.
No one comes to my house, I'll meet you in town, or pickup my item at your house but i don't let anyone see my place. I've met some great people on craigslist but also delt with my fair share of people who I definitely would not want to have milling around my property.
I sold the 91 Goldwing I used to own on CL. I had talked to the man about it for almost two weeks and he and his wife drove from the southern part of the state to look at it.
I was prepared to take just what he payed me in cash money. He drove it away and his wife followed him in the SUV.
But like posted above, just be careful who you deal with. I got mostly scams through the email and manged to weed this man out of them.
I sold a couple of sleds for $375 & a old pedal car for $398 out of the same guys trash. I go by his house every day now :-)
Craigs list is good every one is broke here in Michigan selling all there toys. Great time to buy stuff. I got a 1934 truck chassis, Axles & 5 stock rims for the same last night All for $250
Picked up a set of DOOE-R 429 heads for $200 keep lookin.
As far as selling., they will get back to you if they want it. all tire kickers out there.

Interesting. I find the opposite. I always request that no emails be sent and that the interested party call me only. Prior to putting that in my listing, I would get inundated with scam emails.

On some things it is good to put your number in then no email contact info.. Computers can't call out.

for me emails work better. When I've put my number I seem to get all sorts of calls from people who barely speak English or just want to ask questions. I don't mind sorting through emails. When I find someone who's seriously interested I'll give them a call and work something out.
