A friend of mine who drives a 98 Dodge Commins diesel stoped by the other day and I told him that my 97PS had 327K on it and was still running strong. My tranny is a John Wood E4OD. My friend told me that I had better have my Main Bearings changed. I am not a mechanic but I have taken good care of my PS. Oil changes every 3K and I haul 16K with my John Wood Tranny to vegas once a week. What up about the main Bearings. Thanks in advance
He is feeling a little insecure about his own rig so he is trying to sow seeds of doubt about the quality/endurance of yours.
You'll know it if you start having main bearing noise. Keep up your maintenance schedule and tell him to go fly a kite.
Has his doge box started dropping pieces off the body/chassis yet? Something surely should have rusted off by now.......
Ah- you are in a dry state- no snow and subsequent road salt. Seems like most Dodge trucks around this part of the country with any age on them have pieces falling off.
Hey Dennis, what is the deal with the John Wood tranny? Is it good for heavy pulling and mods? If I do have to put one in mine I am looking at putting a good one that will last. What is the price ranges of that tranny? Where do you get them from?
I have a 1997 cc sb, 4X4, 7.3 powerstroke, automatic, 33 X12.50 X 16.5 BF's, 2" lift for now

Hey Southern and Mustang......I went to Holtville, CA to have my John Wood tranny installed in July. It was a cool day there according to John. The temp was only 111 degrees. Anyway the reason I went to John was because of the miles from me in central Nevada (400+) and the BTS (1500 miles). I told John that I hauled firewood to Vegas with a 20ft gooseneck. Trailer weight with sideboards 5400lbs. Firewood weight varies between 10K to 12K. That's for 5 cords. I run 235/85R/16E with firestone ride-right air bags on the rear (usually with 60lbs in the bags) I had already installed a tranny temp gauge and a 28K cooler on my E4OD. John tore my tranny down and applied his magic to my E4OD. My cost was around $3500 and this was not for the big beefed up tranny as John said that I did not need it. I installed another cooler with a pusher fan that comes on at 175 degrees for the hot Vegas temps and especially for when I am backing up with a load. Going to Vegas I have to go over one summitt and I run it at 40mph and the temp gauge has never been over 180 degrees. I now have over 100K on my John Wood tranny and needless to say I am satisfied
