I'm just too tooo happy I had my 460 out in an engine stand when I put new Bearings and the Seals in.The Rear main seal is a Two piece Neaprene Seal, and it's not easy to work with if you have the Crank in the way.
The old way of doing the Rope seals was to loosen the crank a good bit. Give your self an eighth inch to work with. Then, using a Little Tool you pushed the Rope seal up into the Hole while rotating the crank.
With this new seal you'd do something similar, but wouldn't have to work so hard.
Follow the instructions about trimming and sealing with the Blue RTV.
T'ant easy McGee!
The Bigger question is why is the seal leaking?
If your Truck sat out in the Severe -20 cold the Neoprene might have shrunk and haredened. No other problems then...But It could mean your bearings are worn. You'll need to use Plasti-guage to see what the Bearing Gap's are.
When you go to loosen and tighten those Main Bearing Bolts your gonna use your "Other" language skills. If you dont get at least one Hernia you aint working hard enough at it.
I feel genuinely Sorry for you if you tackle this project without a 1/2" Drive Air Hammer and a good 100 CFM Air compressor.
Be sure to check the Rod's too. You might get away with Std Bearings if there arent too many different sizes.
With the Crank out, you can take it to a machine shop to check it for Flat spots.
