Back up light switch

I'm having trouble locating the back-up light switch on my 1976 f250, (4sp manual, 4x4). My repair manual says it's on the left side of the tranny, but I can't see anything with wires attached or a place that looks like it should have wires attached. Perhaps the switch is completely missing...but I don't know exactly where it's supposed to be. Any suggestions?
