I've been wodering every time I mess around under the hood exactly how my intake breathes. I have the AFE stage II but if you look at it, it doesn't look like there's a lot of air getting to it. If not for the 'zoodad' mod where would the air come from? I know there's a hole in the fender right in front of the filter but I tried to trace a path for the outside air to get in there and just can't find much. I was thinking about making a ram air type funnel to mate up to the zoodad hole and run it past the battery to the filter but am not sure if this would be of much use. Obviously the truck is getting enough air but I don't see how it's getting to such a closed off area where the filter is. What do ya'll think?
(yeah I know it's a stupid question but it's really irritating me.)
they get more air then is needed from the grill (i used my stock snorkel as well) and the inner fender..i have too be carefull this time of year..the roads are constantly gray with salt..i need to wash my pro7 filter almost weekly it gets so nasty..i plug the hole in the fender and remove the snokel during winter times...that slows down the salt buid up and the truck keeps her power..the air is forced into the hood and grill across the motor then down under the truck to help with cooling..the trouble with these trucks is keeping all that air cold..AFE has solved some of that..looks like S&B are doing almost the same...but a little more restricted then the AFE
I guess more air gets in there than it looks like. Thanks for the replys guys, I guess a ram air hood is more for looks than functionality huh? Oh well, that's one less excuse to 'need' one.
I got the same S-B setup, been great since I've had it, it sucks some air. This new design with the snorkle is nice plus the bottom of the box is hollowed out along with the side fenderwell area, the older S-B setups didn't have the snorkle.
Nope, wouldn't consider letting go of my AFE!! They are proud of them though, I wish I had gotten the prefilter with mine though. Clay do you know if they've changed the style of the filter recently? I helped a friend this past weekend install the same intake I have but his filter is different; his just had the filter element only on the sides of the cone where mine also has it on the end that pionts to the hole in the fender. Is this a newer design or some kind of diferent model? It looks like the same blue filtered stage II that I have other than that difference in the filter.

you wont find a ram air hood that works for these trucks,, the aftermarket hoods for these trucks are called heat extractors..they let heat out..they work well from i have heard about them..
this is the first one Pete (F250_) made for the AFE filter...i sent him a dirty filter as a template to make these thing for the AFE..i think he did a good job and it works well...you can order them though Clay as well....i only use it in the winter..this winter the ole girl is staying in the shed...you can see some of that salt on the battery in that pic..

Hey Ron, couldn't you cut a hole in the hood, install a small, 3"x6" aftermarket scoop with some thick weatherstripping to get that Ram Air effect...as long as no rain water wasn't able to get to the filter element, it should be ok...i haven't seen this applied, but, in theory, it should work pretty good
