Electrical Drain

I plow snow for a lady who has a 6.0 ccsb drw Lariet leather loaded up sitting in her driveway that the bank owns. She said it has been the banks for over a year and they haven't picked it up yet!!!
She said the truck is burning up batteries bc it drains them while sitting. She said there has been a draw ever since it was new that it couldn't sit for more than a couble days and it would be dead. Is this a common problem? Where should I look for a solution?
If I wanted to buy this nonrunning truck what should my lowball offer be?

With that many posts you kind of wonder how someone would ask the value of a vehicle with no miles or year posted at a min. let alone condition.

That is the problem...you must not have read very closely. IT IS FOR A LADY I PLOW SNOW FOR. Her husband left and she didn't know a damn thing about the truck other than it has given them electrical problems from day one. She never said what kind of miles, she never said what year (It is between 05-07...is that better?) She said it is loaded up and it looks good from the outside. That is ALL I know about it. I know you can't give an exact price on what they are going for if it was in perfect condition. That is why there is KBB, Autotrader, CarSoup, etc. I am asking what you think a nonrunner is worth to a bank that doesn't even have enough staff or ??? to pick it up when a payment hasn't been made for over a year.
That is why I came to the 6.0 fourm bc I figured I could get some guided advice on what to look for with the electrical problems before I started thinking too seriously about this.
I realize there isn't too much to go off of, but you don't need to be dicks.

You probly should give little thought to the worth before 1 Find who'es name is on title and what it would take for them to relinquis thier interest. 2 If absent husband has been making payments or has been in contact with lender. 3 How much is owed on it. With that info and all parties willing to negoeiate selling the truck, you should asume something more serious than a battery drain parked it. If you are willing and able to bear the burdon of possiable engine replacement, offer accordingly( $5k tops if it is a real cherry). If they turn it down and you still want it,ask what they will take for it. If the price sounds reasonable to you providing the only problem is with battery drain, get permission to charge the batteries and see if it runs ok. Wild guess would be if it runs ok and the drain turns out to be power train related, new gp relay, gps and ficm at worst. If it is not power train related repair cost should not be a problem. You should be prepared for ficm replacement in near future regardless what has been draining batteries all its life. If you don't have someone willing to help you to appraise the problem and repair it at reasonable rates, you might need to pass on it because it is a well known fact how expensive 6.0 can be to repair.

I figured $5000 as well. 1 - It must be both bc she said the bank is after her as well. 2 - Supposedly he hasn't bc the bank told the lady they were going to repo it...but you never know what angry debt people will say 3 - Good call. I figured half of what is owed would be their basement dollar.
I don't want it really bad. I may just get it going and flip it. I am rather happy with my 7.3 and I don't know if I want a drw. Seems like the drw would always get in the way, esp when plowing.
I assume the ficm is the PCM of the 7.3's? Basically the brain. They are less than a grand in my world. I thought I saw a TSB about battery drain on 6.0s at one point in my life.
I think next time I plow I will have to do more investigating. Maybe a VIN so I can see the OASIS. That will let me know if I want anything to do with it!!! FWIH if they have one problem they have them all.

If the bank ownes it, they may take the offer, check oasis, start with low ball. Only power drain is its sitting to much, you are going to have to run it to figure it out....

Come to think of it, only electrical drain issues I can recall are in the older 03 to 04, with harness chaffing, others could chime in with more on these. If you are getting it for 5000, a harness replacement or rework is doable if you are handy. If its the GEM or the FICM then its more money in parts but again, you can sell for 4 times what you paid for it can't you?

The FICM is the fuel injector control module. it is not the pcm there is still a pcm on these but ficm failures are common when battery votage gets low. and they are not cheap but are under a grand. 6.0 is a great truck, but far more advanced than the 7.3 you are used to. they are very picky with maintance. kind of like a wife treat her good and she will do the same to you. and the 05-07 is better than the 03-04 IMHO. If you can get the truck for 5K and I would jump on that in a heart beat. Is it 4x4 if so and you can get it for 5k and dont want to mess with it. I would by it for 8k without you doing anything to it. let us know what the bank says.

You would have to go poking around with an ammeter to find the problem. I've heard of the heated mirror relay sticking and causing a drain like this more than once.

I have the electrical drain also. Can't let it sit for longer than a four or five days without driving it or it won't start. Had the batteries tested and they are good. Meter showed about 1 amp draw with keys in off position. Wire harness was replaced at 24K, have 48K on her now. Guess it's time to drop it at Yocum Ford for a look see. How did you find the sticking relay on heated mirrors?

Use an ammeter and go through your fuse box. Pull each fuse, insert ammeter to check current through that circuit, repeat for all fuses. Do this with the engine off and after the door has been open long enough for the dome lights to go out.
