4wd problem

4wd problem
I have a 99 f150 that I bought recently and went to put the truck in 4wd and the manual shifter on the floor would not budge. I had my foot on the brake and trans in neutral but nothing would happen, I could not move the shifter out of 2wd. Any ideas what I could look for? I searched and saw alot of trucks not engaging but the shifter would move, my 4wd shifter will move side to side but will not budge when I try to put it in 4wd. Im assuming its auto locking hubs, I dont see any manual locks.

I had a Ford Explorer recently that had a manual shifter that wouldn't move (sounds like yours: side to side, but not up and down), and all I had to do was to look underneath and find the levers, which were seized. Just sprayed a ton of penetrant on the pivots and pushed and pulled until it started moving, and then sprayed more and moved more, etc.
After about 5 min, it was moving like new.
