Ive got a 76 Ford F-100 with a 302 engine. It has a C6 transmission right now. I would like to swap to a 4-speed manual. I dont know what the 4 speed is called, I dont really want an NP435. And are there any with overdrive? If I get the transmission out of a donor truck from the junkyard, Id get the tranny itself, bellhousing, and shifter. What kind of clutch linkage do the 73-79s use? Could someone please help me, Im lost and I need a manual? Thanks
Joey, I spect, after you find out what all is required to go from auto to straight, you'll just forget it. The other way around aint bad atal. Your column will need to be changed. There is no clutch pedal, or linkage there. All that has to be put in. Either floor shifter or column will be added. Flexplate exchanged for flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch assembly, tranny, drive shaft.
Your tranny could be tired and need building, but the C6 is a darn good tranny. They are nearly bullet proof.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
I've started the conversion on my '72 to do the same. You're going to have to get the clutch pedal, and linkages, clutch pivot off of the frame, a I think Big Brown Truck calls it the z bar. Basically start at the clutch pedal and work your way down to the throwout bearing arm. I would suggest an exact model year swap. Mine's not done yet, so the only thing I can tell you for sure is that is gonna be a bear getting the clutch return spring that goes under the dash in place.
TR--Put that spring on with the plastic bushings BEFORE you hang the pedal assembly. With the assembly off you use the pedal the spring goes right on without having any pre-load on it. You will break those plastic bushings everytime trying to put the spring on with the pedal hung (this is assuming you can even get the spring stretched enough to go on).

It's already in there, I just wanted to let him know it's a bear. That's as far as I've gotten because I don't have a 4 speed yet, I'm still driving the juice tranny. I'm just trying to prep it to put a REAL tranny in it, when I find one.
If you put the spring on before the pedal is hung it's cake! I'd even remove the assembly to change or install this spring. It's the correct way to do it and once you see how easy it is you will never do it any other way.
