what about your fuel pump sensor ? should be inside the tank ? might be messed up ? do you have a chiliton maunal ?

Most of the truck sending units that I have seen have a brass barrel shaped float, they can get a leak and sink.
When they first start to leak they can give sporadic readings as they half sink, they float up and down funny.
They just clip into a loop on the end of the float lever arm.
I just replace one like that last week in a 93.
