any roller rockers

i think ive posted this before but i dont remember and dont feel like looking through my list everything ive posted. ok to just get straight down to it, i wanna maybe get roller rockers for my 96 300. i need to know if it would even make sense to? and if you show me a set that WILL work for my year. since there are different stud sizes and what not, i dont know what i can use....INPUT

rockauto is listing a 5/16-18 as a replacement bolt for your pedestal rockers.

those rocker arms will not bolt right on. your engine should have pedestal mount rocker arms, and those you listed are for stud mount rocker arms. i believe someone makes a conversion kit, but i don't know who, or cost

I was looking into this conversion. Have access to a free set of ch**y roller rockers if I can make them work.

Stud mount roller rockers in general will need stud kit and push rod guide plates.
And may or may not need the pedestals machined down depending on rockers used, is what I gather.

Crane sells a set of V8 guide plates. P/N 36655-16
I e-mailed crane to see if they work on 300's

The 240-300 I6 also has a different angle to the pushrod seat, due to the near parallelism of the pushrods and valves. This results in the pushrod seat being just about straight up when the rocker is horizontal. You’ll have to check to be sure that the pushrod does not try to come out of the seat when near full lift.

dam if only it was easy to build like the jeep 4.0..this sucks, cause i dont feel like getting too deep into anything..

On my 92 i6 i did the stud and guideplate conversion kit for the 351w and installed a set of harland sharp aluminum roller rockers, the only thing im having trouble with now is how to set the valve lash to 0. i have read many threads of how to do this and i attempted to do so but i want to make sure im doing it right. has anyone else done this on a straight six?

For a while I was running a set of Crane gold racing rockers for a 409 bbc, 1.7 ratio, with 3/8 studs. You know how you can change positions on some carbs accelerator pump arm, closer to the housing or further away? Well, the 1.6 oem ford 300 to 1.7 ratio works the same way. When you convert to the 1.7, it moves the p.rod closer to the valve, so you need the 'slotted' type head. The old 300 heads had an oblong slot for the pushrods. With those there is no problem of wear/friction.

You also need to do the 'witness' test to determine where on the v.tip the roller is riding. You simply cover the v.tip with the ink from a felt pen, and bolt on the rocker, then crank the engine 1 rotation and take it apart. You can see where it is riding. You want it to ride on the center 1/3 of the tip. It it rides from center out, on either side, then you need either shorter or longer p.rods.

There is a company called PRW who sells on ebay. They make the bbc rollers with either 3/8 or 7/16 studs, for about $200. If you convert to 7/16 studs, it is very easy to find a nice set of used bbc rollers for around $100.

A pedestal mount 300 head can use stud mount rockers if you use a pushrod guidplate conversion kit. I have intsalled it on my 90 cyl head and it all works just fine. Crane part number 36655-16 will give you 3/8 studs and guideplate for 5/16 pushrods. If you go this route hardened pushrods are not required becuse the kit has nylon inserts in the guidplates. I had to mix a couple of kits on mine cause I needed 7/16 studs for BBC rockers I already had. It is best for long life of the nylon inserts if you polish the pushrods to make sure there are no burrs on them. This is easy to do in a drill.
This conversion kit will also make your valvtrain adjustable.
