I love my Excursion more than any vehicle i've owned! I don't think they can blame mileage on the diesel ones, seems how I get 20mpg on the highway in the summer and mine is a 2003 4x4 7.3L with 270,000 miles on it! Hell, my 08 F150 only gets 17mpg and it's not even close to as heavy as my X. I do know that the X's got great reviews compared to other Ford's and just seemed to be built better. I was never impressed with my 05 F250 6.0 at all, that's why I went split year 7.3. Maybe they will bring it back some day. It's funny how all the makes are bragging about their SUV's now getting 20mpg, when the X has been doing it a long time before their smaller SUV's. Now if ford could just make a steering gear box that holds up...lmao

Most of them do hold up. 150k miles and zero slop.
Could you not say that the Cadillac Escalade helped alot to kill the Ex? People with $50k to spend on a SUV were more likely to buy a caddy instead of an Ex?

Just an observation.
Funny !
Momma WANTED an Escalade, we were actually on our way to look at a new one when we passed a Ford dealer and I said, let's go look....
Well, left with the first of 3 Ex's and haven't looked back
We are in a conundrum about what to do when the 05 wears out
I always felt that the Excursion was not marketed well, especially w/the Powerstroke diesel. The first year you saw ads on TV but after taking some heat from the greenies, you hardly saw one at all. Heck, about the only time we would see an Excursion in an ad was from Wyomings department of tourism. They had a nice Excursion in their promotional ads. My wife loves ours and keeps talking about how she feels really safe and confident especially in the winter months. It has been the most reliable vehicle we've had.
One more thing- I had e-mailed the former Super Duty Marketing manager in 2003 when rumors were floating around that the Excursion woud be discontinued. I had told him that our PSD got better mileage than our AWD Aerostar (not a bad vehicle). Here was his reply:
Thanks for your positive comments. We have heard from many enthusiastic Excursion Owners since the announcement of the cancellation of the Excursion. There were many different factors that were taken into consideration before this decision was made. Make no mistake, this was not a hastily made decision. The Excursion is the ultimate trailer towing, trip-taking SUV especially when equipped with the Power Stroke Diesel (currently over 60% of all Excursions). 2004 will be the last model year of production for the Excursion. I can confidently state this decision will not be changed unless demand for this product increases substantially. If you or other enthusiastic Excursion Owners would like this changed, I recommend demonstrating your support and purchasing a new Excursion or at least spreading the word to other potential Excursion customers. Thanks again for your comments
