Hey guys, just got a couple quick questions. My waterpump has started that slow leak of death, and I guess I am going to have to replace it. I was wondering if anybody knew the best place to get one? Also, I was thinking about flushing the system, and changing to the 203 thermostat. (where is the best place for this too?) I was reading about this Evans stuff, and it sounds pretty awsome, but has anybody used this stuff? Seems pretty expensive. Also, how much would I need for my 94 powerstroke? I see it says it doesnt require mixing, so I guess I would need 3-4 gallons, but I cant find my manual anywhere. All suggestions are welcome.
thanks
I got my pump at NAPA with a lifetime warranty for around $100.00 but that was two (2) years ago. For the 203* T-Stat go to Dieselsight.com (I think) and consider replacing the T-Stat housing at the same time. The OEM housings tend to leak from warpage.
Your truck already has the 203 t-stat if it is a 94 or 95.
If it has the the stock water pump and it hasnt been converted to the newer design there are a fair amount that were, ( to the OP than its a 203, the 96 and later waterpump used the 195. In my opinion the 203 is a waste of $ though, I have a stock tempt 195 and a electric water temp guage with the sensor right at the t stat and it reads 215 average operating temp. and mathematically 8* shouldnt make that much difference. I got my pump at oreillys for $75 with a lifetime warranty. Not familar with that anitfreeze either I just use the heavyduty premix extended life stuff Ive been putting in semi tractors simply because its longer life, and already got SCA's in it. )
I just looked into that evans antifreeze rather interesting stuff, got me concidering it now. Its says you have to have your block/ water system 100% empty/ dry with that in mind you looking at around 5-6 gal.
If that is the stuff that rtuns un pressurized there has been alot of discussion on here about it. You have to drill a hole in your cap to release pressure.
Do a search for it here. Some were considering it quite some time ago. I believe it is opinion. Some Hate it some love it. Not many people run it though.
Personally I think it is alot of money when regular coolant does the same job.
Yes if you are talking about the '94 you already have the 203° stat. If it is going bad replace it with one from NAPA or other store. You may consider the housing at the same time too.
If the stat is not going bad just replace the coolant and be sure to have some SCA in there. You may be able to find coolant with it there already or get a bottle of SCA from NAPA or the dealer.
I use evans in alot of cooling systems.
Started using it way back when it was called mecca.(pre evans)
I do not use it in the psd. No real need for it.
You really only get 2 gains with the change to the evans
in a psd. No more sca testing and you will never blow a hose.
Some have made the change justt so they will never blow a hose
out on the road.
Thanks guys. I appreciate it. For some reason when I seach the waterpump on y2k ford parts, the price is like $296. I guess thats because it is a ford part? Napa has them now for 154. That Evans seems cool, but at $111 for 4 gallons, thats pretty expensive. But then if you never have to replace it again, then maybe its worth it. What coolant do you guys recomend that doesnt require adding sca's?
