I'm doing a custom build but am having trouble finding the measurement differences from a pre-73 flareside bed and 73-79. I know the pre-73, but the 73-79 look wider and maybe even taller, I know the tops are different (flat instead of angled).
What measurements are you wanting? I will measeure the width and the height tomorrow and post tomorrow night. Got to put in a few applications for a job tomorrow during the day.
The measurements inside the bed from side to side are 53 7/8"
The height from wood to the bend is 19 3/8" I have a 78 so my top is flat.
From bend to the outside of the rolled edge is 4 3/4".
I also have a 71 flairside outside I am going to use if you need any measurements off it.
What are you custom building?
I'm building a 1956 F-600 4x4, it use to have a flat bed on it but it looses so much style without the flare side bed. The long beds are taller and wider for my year, and I think it makes them look a great deal better. They're just a massive pain to find, of any year, so I might just end up making what I need.
I was just curious on the 73-79 ones, they do seem to be wider than the '6 beds, probably be as tall if the tops weren't flat. *edit after checking they're actually almost identical to the long beds, minus the 1.5' in lenght*
Do you know if the fenders are the same? They have them listed as different, but I can't see it am I'm not sure if it's just something on how it bolts on rather than the outside.
I am pretty sure the fenders are the same. I think the difference is in the step on the side, how it mounts? or shape? I have both beds outside, I'll try to remember to look tomorrow and see if I can see a difference. I know what you mean about finding a good bed. You can buy bedsides for the short bed but not the long. I searched for about 4 years before I found a decent one to use on my rebuild, I had to go to San Antonio TX to get it. I made a trip all the way to Florida to get one, but it was trash. I then found out the pictures she sent me were taken 6 years earlier. I ask for current pictures now. I did get to have a good road trip with my dad that weekend though. I thought of another difference. The 78-79 fenders have the gas filler in the rear of the drivers side fender. I have seen notes on aftermarket fenders it says no gas filler hole.
