Cammed Dents
So I finally fell victim to making a Youtube exhaust video so here it is... My '73 F100 Ranger. I have Quick Time Performance electric cutouts on it. Opened up at 25 seconds. Let's see some more lopin' dents.

Comp Cams .500 lift and stock heads minus dual coil valve springs. Truck also has MSD distributor and coil, dual chain timing set, edelbrock performer single plane intake and carb 600 cfm.
I'm pretty sure this is the cam i bought.

I have a stock converter. Lemme guess.. It'll barely do a burnout in the dry but it hauls ***** after you get it movin'? ... I hate to admit this but I have the same problem.. My truck doesn't make power until around 2,000 either. I too have debated running a stall converter but it really doesn't solve the issue and its harder on the rest of the drivetrain. I'd hate to tear up my Detroit locker just so my truck will launch harder. This issue is the reason I took the time to tear apart the front of my engine and advance the timing gear but to no avail so don't waste your time. It's also the reason I went with the 4.11's instead of 3.73's. I even bought the MSD dizzy and coil which I don't regret because these only improve efficiency and power, especially when I finally buy heads for it. I've talked to several knowledgeable people about this and we've come to a common idea. The stock smogger heads on the '78 windsor just suck. I've also thought about buying an offroad cam to provide for more low end power but I just can't bring myself to take out my buggity cam and run less lift.

Absolutely hit the nail on the head!!! lol. I have 3.00 gears. I raced a 5.4 triton one day and it was stock. Off the line he left me probably by 3-4 cars lenths. Then on the long stretch I started catching up and passed him, lol. With the shift kit it has if you floor it off the line won't shift to 2nd till 65mph. I just set and laugh when people think they beat me, then I catch up and pass them, lol.

What year engine is in the truck? Stock heads?
Glad to hear I'm not the only one out here chasing low end torque with my small block... I was actually kinda okay with it until I landed a '65 F100 with a 429 in it and shortly after bought a '79 F250 4x4 with a '71 460 in it. These trucks HAUL ***! Hence my new favorite phrase, "There's no replacement for displacement" These two stock big blocks absolutely roast my "mildly built" 351, at least on the bottom end. I haven't lined these trucks up to see how the big blocks perform against the Windsor at top end though. It could surprise me but I don't know. I DO know that my '79 spins 44's on the dry street with stock 4.10's just as fast as it spun 33's. The '65... its just stupid torquey. Anyways, moral of the story is, I'm taking the 429 out of the '65 and putting it in my '73 this summer! The '65 doesn't have power brakes or power steering so the big block will be better suited in my Ranger.

Hope mine sounds as good
I was curious as I'm in the process of putting a 351W in my 79.
I have not fired my motor yet due to some snags on the exhaust.
I put a Comp 4x4 cams 35-239-3
.493 & .512 lift, 262/270 Duration
Edelbrock Air Gap Performer
625cfm Speed Demon
Trick Flow Heads
It just kills me i haven't fired it yet. your video might just get me off my but and get it going this month
Thanks

Looks to me like its gonna sound kickass! You've done something I didn't have the money to do.. buy trick flows. So it's gonna run as good as it sounds. I can recommend buying those Quick Time Performance electric cutouts or just bolt up cutouts because it really makes the truck turn into a growling beast when it idles. It's a nice little weapon to have when a 5.0 mustang pulls up next to you at a stop light. I have xcellerator mufflers and i love em. They have several different sounds throughout the rpm range unlike slowmasters... What are you runnin? Anyways, GET IT DONE! So we can hear it.

Just typed in that part number in Summit's site. That must be a new cam, maybe that will help 79FordBlake and I. I hadn't seen a high lift cam with such a low rpm power range.. I'm very interested to see how your truck performs on the bottom end. I'm tempted to just order that cam right now actually!
