Chep, My current truck is a F550 4x4 manual tranny.
this discussion has kinda come to an end. Sadly US Gear was sold to another co and they have dropped the Dual range from production.
I stumbled upon a used one the other day in an RV forum and bought it just for the ability to have spare parts should I ever need them.
there might be a few still out there on vendors shelves. it will just require a diligent search to find them
It would be wonderful if some other co would pick this up and begin marketing them again, but in the current economy its doubtful.
I drove my dads '39 convertible sedan a couple weekends ago and it sports an accessory "Columbia" two speed rear end. Its an overdrive unit as opposed to the old Model T "Ruckstell" which was an underdrive for climbing hills. It was cable actuated and worked great!
PS- Check out the custom plates on the Lincoln Zephyr!
got a 2020 f250 lariat 4x4 10 speed automatic 7.3 new gas motor looking for the gear venders to see if they have come out with an over drive for this yet. I think that would be alot cheaper than the dual speed rearends mentioned earlier. Any suggestions?

Suggestions? Why yes indeed. Several in fact..
But first, Welcome to FTE!
Second, your brand new 2020 F-250 with a TEN speed automatic transmission already has not just one, not just two, but THREE overdrive gears already built in!

Thirdly, with not only a brand new truck, but an entirely brand new power train design, being the very first production year for both the transmission and the engine, that were co developed for each other with highly integrated electronic onboard monitoring and controls, sensing torque, bias, load, and the relative and differential spin speeds of a multitude of rotating components...with performance algorithms in the software optimized for the parameters as originally designed... do you really want to throw a third party two speed rear axle into this fresh mix? While still under warranty?
Finally, you've posted in the 7.3L sub-forum. Which at a cursory glance might make sense, as you have a 7.3L... but yours is a brand new gas motor, and this subforum is for 20 year old diesel engines which just so happen to have the same displacement. I highly recommend you post in the 2017+ newer Super Duty sub forum , where you will find more kinship and relevant experience with similarly situated members having the same model and type of new truck that you have.

It's really an 8 speed with two ridiculous extra OD gears that would never be useful in a heavily loaded situation.

I can hit 10th just fine at 20k gross on the highway at 70 just fine. My 379 with the 18 speed and a .73 final ratio will also cruise the highway at 60mph loaded easy enough. I think the 10R140 has plenty of useful gears.
"If you have a factory overdrive transmission and are thinking the Gear Vendors will get you better mileage when towing – we would not agree. It is false economy to think you can tow a heavy load with just 1/2 an engine revolution per driveshaft turn. Staying at 60mph and below are the best ways to save fuel and wear on your truck because the aero load of the typical trailer is 1/2 at 60 what is at 75mph. Factory overdrive + Gear Vendors is perfect for when the truck is not towing, but when you are towing the aerodynamics require horsepower. The UNDER/OVERDRIVE™ can be extremely beneficial and capable of delivering hundreds of thousands of miles within these limits."

The ratio spacing seems too close 9th - 10th, but I assume thats engineering issues and not intentional.
Don't mind me. I just like to come in here and talk out of my *** on occasion. I think the ratio spread is pretty good, particularly jumping from 1.00 to .85 since it is the tall end of the transmission where ratio spacing is more crucial. That is one of my main complaints with the ZF6 is that the gap between 1:1 and OD is too wide and leaves a kind of no-mans land on the speedometer where one is too short and the other is too tall and lugs the engine. This becomes especially obvious when rowing your own gears with a load behind you. Eaton Fuller 13 speed would be nice if it didn't weigh 3x as much as a ZF6 lol.
