I have a click type torque wrench and I lent it out......when I got it back, it was still set--at about 200ftlbs (my best guess, the scale stops around 185). How will this effect the accuracy of the wrench? How can I fix it? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
If you are lucky it didnt hurt anything. As you probably know, you should always store the wrench with 0 torque selected. If the wrench was "overtorqued" once or twice it shouldnt really hurt it, but I wouldnt make a habit of it.
You might be able to get it calibrated at a tool rental shop or the local "snap-on tool guy". I calibrate mine at work so I dont really know anywhere that you can take it, just guessing.
The settings are inside the handle, in case you are interested. Basically it is just a couple of nuts that you use to increase/decrease the pressure on a threaded rod. This gives a resistance which equals the selected torque.
Sorry not much help now that I re-read my post. I hope it isnt broken though.
