But when I really get on the pedal in the case of an Oh-Shoot moment, the trailer brakes are doing their job.
And that's why I love it! My Tekonsha Prodigy once nearly screwed me in a similar situation. Coming down a steep hill with 8,000 lbs behind me in my '07 F150. Between the angle I had it mounted at and the angle of the hill it didn't seem to understand that I was attempting a panic stop. Truck brakes locked up, ABS kicked in and the trailer did NOTHING. I nearly plowed 3 deer because of it. Had it been a car that couldn't get out of the way as fast as those deer it would have been ugly.
Good point about the difference about pressures in the master cylinder and the effectiveness of the brakes. Didn't think much about that; maybe that's why it's calibrated the way it is. Either way I still tow with complete confidence in my braking system. Far more than I ever did with an aftermarket controller. I'll never get another truck without it!

Yes, but that would require a level of coordination far beyond me! Good thing my truck's an automatic!!!
heh...he'd be in trouble if it were a heavier truck with an engine brake. Steering, using the trailer handbrake, and properly downshifting would be quite a challenge!
I am reading this thread looking for more answers. My IBC has been cut into "wiring" and tried to replace it with a Reese controller. First .. is this really necessary....or better?? As it sits neither controller is functioning. I have been told by a trailer company the new IBC will not allow you to simply splice into the wiring at the dash .. and you had to run new wiring to utiilize a aftermarket box. I am going to re wire the IBC unless I get feedback here supporting other means.
I remember on my 2003 Excursion where I had a PRODIGY installed, there was a plug right under the steering wheel. Better check for that plug and fix the cut wires.
I am not sure how to say it otherwise, Y'all be lookin for Trouble, with a capital T!
