The stock firewall pad is pretty good. I added dynamat and closed cell foam and it didn't really help any. I just posted some pics on another thread here:
My solution was the least popular of all... Spark plugs. My first three Cummins Rams were like climbing in a barrel with a jack hammer. I tried dynomat, rags, pillows behind the rear seat, foam in the fenders, 500 watt stereo... I thought the 6.0 PSDs in our company trucks were pretty quiet in comparison. The new 6.4L's in our company trucks are real quiet. At first I couldn't make 'em loud enough. Then the novelty wore off and it was just noise. Now I hear nothing but the tires on the road and a little V8 exhaust note. When the ol' lady's with me the fan belt squawks non stop. Not sure what the connection is...
Didn't the 6.0 get a flash that ended the quiet idle and low speed?
Yes, they did away with pilot injection pretty early. I don't mind the noise from my 6.0L. Only time it bothers me is at the drive thru, and I don't go through those very often so when I do I just turn it off.
