Tri y headers for bronco

Hey guys,

need a source for tri y headers for a 400. Apparently headers for a 351c will work I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this and what the clearence issues. Also looking for a schematic/ advice on how to remove the emmision xontrol from the engine with using a performer intake and a 1406 edelbrock 600cfm

thanks

Matt

No They Are Not

No they are not good enough. From experience they leak and crack when coming in contact with water. Time to try something new and Doug Thorley has me convinced that tri Y is the way to go.

I wanted Tri-Y headers for my 90 F150 (302) back in the 90s and Doug Thorley was the only source. I went with the Hooker's to save money and they stunk on ice. Totally blew my bottom-end (torque, I mean), truck would not pull at all off-idle. Above 3000rpm it was a beast but what good is that? I yanked them after about 15k miles and went back to manifolds.

Does Thorley make them for your truck? If not I am betting there is not another source unless you have them custom made.

Are the tri-y's equal length or do they just cause enough "congestion" to keep your torque from going out the window?

Doug Thorley

They will fit a 400 if you buy them for a 302C all being a 355 series engine I was wondering if anybody had tried it and what they found for clearance ect. being its a 4wd and what not. For better info on how they work check out dougthorley.com it'll explain it all they are supposed to be awesome for tourque which is great for my Bronco that never sees over 4000 rpm.

I believe you mean "351M".

Typo

No I mean 351C as I said on my first post. Doug thorley only makes them for a 351C since the 351C 351M/ 400 are all 355 series motors they have the same cylinder heads so the headers will fit again I am wondering about clearence on a 4wd. Thorley doesn't make a set for a 351m/400. If they had a set for a 351m they would have a set for a 400 since these engines are Physically virtualy impossible to seperate. The only true way to know is to measure the stroke.

But in your latest post you said "302C". There is no such thing. And I don't think the 351C heads are the same as the 351M, if they were the 351M would not be such a dog. 351M and 400 the same yes, 351C and 351M not so much.

The thing about headers is they have to fit the car as well as the motor. I am betting the 351C headers are not going to work in your truck even if they do bolt up to your heads. Those headers are made to fit a Mustang or maybe a Torino.
