Radiator Hoses

I have a 2005 6.0L with 150,000 miles and I am thinking that the radiator hoses are getting to the end of there useful live. What have you seen as a time or mileage guide for replacing them.

Just changed mine at 101,000 but 2004, started to look a little swollen pass the necks of the fittings.

My 2004 with 138,000 miles still has the original hoses and belt. I'm thinking of replacing them next summer. No use tempting fate!

I did the rad hoses and belt at 75k. The reason I did the rad hoses was because there was a gouge in the upper one.

Yep, I noticed a gouge on my lower rad. hose that had been rubbing on something, it would have gone sometime soon. I also did a flush since I was changing the hose.

Years ago we always changed the belts and hoses every three years as the heat in Texas seemed to destroy them between the third and fourth year regardless of the mileage. This truck is a 2003 and I carefully watched the hoses until the truck had six years from the build date and 60K miles on it. Since I always carry an extra set in the fifth wheel, I decided to change them before I changed the coolant.

I was surprised to see that they were in good shape both externally and internally. There were no soft spots or gouges. I installed the new ones, cleaned up the old ones and I keep them as my spare. In the Spring, I'll replace the sepentine belt with the spare I carry even though it still looks good. It will be seven years.

We camp in the National Forests and other out of the way places so we always carry spares. That said, I'd rather do replacements in my driveway than out in the weeds.
