Used trany problem

Need info. I just put a c6 out of a 1988 f-150, in my 1965 truck, I changed the front and rear seal,filter, and vacuum modulater.The trany wont shift into drive or any other forward gear untill it get warm. It takes about 15 minutes. I checked all the regular, fluid level, shiftlinkage, and it is all good. I shifts to reverse no problem. Any suggestions would help. I think it is probley hard seal...

When you replaced the modulator valve did you reinstall the small pin in the center? This keeps the valve in place in the trans case.Without it the valve will go to the end of its travel as soon as there is pressure and bleed off the hydraulic pressure to the forward gears.If this isnt the problem the forward clutches are probably toasted . These are applied in all the forward gears and if they are burned up it wont work very well in forward.
