Hey guys, I could really use your expertise. A little background. I took my truck in to have the fuel filters changed (broke the cap on the upper trying to do it myself) Shortly after that noticed an oil? leak under the rear passenger side of the engine. Took the truck in to have the techs look at it and, while I was there, flush and replace the coolant. They told me the bed plate seal (I believe) was leaking and they would have to pull the engine to repair costing $2500. The next day I notice this thing is really leaking now when sitting in the driveway. It is a constant drip (clear fluid).
Questions
1) Is it common for this seal to go bad and leak worse so quickly?
2) If not, what else should I look for?
bed plates leak from time to time. I have never seen one puke oil they more or less seep.
guess what Im getting at is find a second opinion.
bed plates leak oil wich is not a clear fluid.
Thanks for the info guys. Bismic and Cheezit, thank you for taking the time; you always have a lot of information. I am going to post some pics tomorrow. Interesting thing that I noticed today. My truck is parked in my driveway and it slopes making the right side lower than the left. Yesterday, I reversed the truck so that the left was now lower. Today it is now leaking the same fluid down the rear-left side of the engine and the right is no longer dripping. Does that ring any bells. The trace of the leak is identical. I have not been able to find the source. Is their an easy way to check the valley of the engine? If that is the source, would that be the EGR cooler?
Thanks again for your help.

My son and I dropped off his 07 F-250 at the dealer today...it has about 33.5K miles. We changed the oil Sun...and noticed oil leaking right after we started the motor to check for oil leaks. This oil leak is passanger side just above the starter...it's leaking nice clean oil. The truck was parked on a slight slope Sunday, we also noticed the leak this morning at the shop. The truck was also parked on a slight slope...oil leaking from the same location....just above the start...between engine block and head. There was also slight oil leak below the oil pump cover...and before moving the truck Sunday we clean under the truck ...removed the old oil stains on the bellhousing and oil pan...We will keep you informed on what...the dealership will do to resolve these leaks....This repair will be under warranty. Would anyone know about the ARP Head stud kit...part number, supplier and cost....

Check the fluid leaking by smell this is easiest way to determine if oil or deisel. If it is deisel I would check the top filter o-ring and the inlet and outlet fuel line fittings.

Thanks, it is definitely not Deisel. Its either coolant or oil.

Wouldn't that be from the area around the glow plugs?

It may be just a matter of deduction...Fuel filter cap cracked and fuel filters replaced...however, doesen't smell like fuel...so rule that out. Oil leak? Since Oil isn't exactly clear, rule that out...although, there could be some oily residue under the motor for who knows what reason...but is that what is dripping...you stated clear fluid? Then you stated that while there you had coolant flush....most likely match for a clear fluid....so if this greater leak (of clear fluid) is happening just after the dealer flush and fill...I'd suspect a coolant leak or spilled coolant residual.
I would suspect the little hose from the oil cooler to the egr. cooler, pressure pump for radiators is a great way to create pressure and find the leak with running the engine. But could even be the hose from the engine to the degas bottle..
It's that time of the year, I would also suspect the egr cooler hose. Sounds like it's dripping from the right spot, passenger side above the starter. It will leak when cold, especially when sitting overnight. It will stop when temperatures moderate. Keep an eye on the coolent expansion bottle and fill when necessary.
Mine is an '03 and has been doing it for a few years now; I'm going to replace the hose this spring (that's what I've been saying for the last three years!). I still have the orange colored hose, the new and improved is blue.

Sorry meant to say pressure test with OUT running the engine..Gotta get some sleep one of these days...lol.
Holy cow! Thanks for all of the ideas! I am going to buy a telescopic mirror and light and do some investigating this weekend. Thank you for all of your insights.
