Mid Fifty Cab corner patch panel trouble

Anyone had any trouble with the rear cab corner patch panel and door post bottom? This is on the right side. Lefts were great.

I had a devil of a time because they were both too big, and finally gave up and ordered a new set to start over. But the new set is actually worse.

The door post bottom is too wide, so it will push the bottom of the door post out, and cause door alignment problems.. you have to split the patch panel vertically (I did it at the inside edge) and remove about 3/16 material to get both edges to line up properly..

The the outside edge of the door psot patch also has the little step where the cab body panel transitions to under the door edge.. but the step is only 1/2 as big as it needs to be, both front to back and in/out. all the way down to the tip.. (I will post a picture later)

then on the body panel itself, when the back tuck is lined up on the back, and the cab mount bolt hole is lined up, the front door edge of the panel is 1/4 inch too far forward of the post edge.
The the door edge has the wrong step sizes, on all three faces,
outside to step edge, step face, and inside edge. none will match any of the existing body panel sizes.

and if thats not enough, the bottom of the door edge panel doesn't have any step to the cab skirt edge. so it doesn't follow the door edge to closure..

these are all really hard to fix (almost not worth having a patch panel)
anybody else seen this? I talked to Midfifty yesterday, and the person that would know these patch panels is out til next friday, but they also don't remember changing suppliers or getting a new stamping set..

This is really holding up finishing the bodywork..

Anyone have any other patch panel experience?

That's news I didn't want to hear. I am almost finished with the frame and have time to finish the cab repairs now. I got the RH rocker and cowl installed and moved to the LH side, only to find more rust and more parts to order. Got the door pillar and triangle gusset installed today, only to find that the LH cowl just doesn't fit as well as the RH. Also found that the cowl reinforcment piece (where the fender bolts on) doesn't fit very well either. I was going to order the rear corners next week, guess I'll see where this thread goes first.

I ordered some rear cab corners and sent them back for the reasons Sam stated.

r the corners u guys mention finished in primer or plain steel?, we had much the same problems with my 56, recently i received another brand of corner and noticed they differ in many areas to the other brand, if i could take the best points from both sets i may have a good fitting corner.

The MidFifty corners are in primer.

I have a short set of unprimed corners, and they are a LOT worse.

Are the corners you are trying to use the Mid-Fifty 7709R & L that are "guaranteed, nice piece" or the 7709JK that are supposed to only fit on the back section? I ask this because I was going to use the taller ones especially on the left to cover the filler neck hole. I noticed the Dennis Carpenter has a cab corner listed also, but it is not as tall.

This is the 'guaranteed' outer corner 7709R and door post 7715R

7709L and 7715L fit very nicely. (drivers side)

7706L & 7706R (inner corners) also fit great

Does it look like the unprimed RH would fit the back of the cab to the rounded outer edge? My door edge and corner to the rounded corner are good, just rusty at the back bottom edge.

No.. on mine the lower 1/2 of the corner was swiss cheese all the way back past the mount bolt hole.

I have tried different corners from two suppliers, neither fit very well had to rework them, Both sides. I think that's just the way it is. Not very helpful am I.

Look at the left rear corner panel in the " body work" of my gallery. there you will find the 3rd of 3 panels that I bought just to see the differences fron, DC, MF, and Blue Oval. There was much discussion on this at the time so I ordered all of them. The DC was non-primered and was off a bit, the MF was grey prime and the fitment made me laugh, and the blue oval came black epoxy and fit perfect and needed no filler at all. I used 1 coat of zinc chromate, 2 coats filling priimer, and 1 coat of epoxy sealer prior to paint. I was very surprised. Of course the weld grind took some time to avoid warp, but it was worth the time.
