Twist on "budget builds"
Allright, so I've seen plenty of budget beater, low dollar make it work for a non-registered trail truck builds. Been there, done that. Decided to mix it up a bit with my latest truck.
The goal here was how capable of a nice truck could I build as cheaply as possible while still maintaining full street legality and daily driver abilty.
Victim:
1986 F150 Supercab, 302, AOD, 4x2, bought as a roller as the 302 had 4 rods hanging out of the block
$300
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/Hoxviii/042606029.jpg)
First things first I got it going as a 300-6, NP435, NP205 still a 4x2
Shorten and balance rear shaft
$50
New clutch hydraulics
$70
Pedal assembly, motor, trans, t-case
Free/on spare pile
Sold AOD, scrapped 302, sold 302 heads
+$225
Swapped in front axle w/outer rebuild and fresh brakes and lock-rite w/regear to 4.09's
$350
rear end to 4.10's
$100

This is where the luck along with constant scrouging started to roll in.
Winch bumper
$30. winch has been on two other of my trucks so I don't count it. If I did it'd be $450/3 trucks=$150

50% 35" all terrains on aluminum wheels
Traded for 50% 33" mud tires that I'd gotten for free
Wheels, $75
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/Hoxviii/082508003-1.jpg)
high back bucket seats and console
$60
Get A/C working
$200 to fully R&R and properly convert to 134a
4" TTB lift w/ steering arm
$48
Rear lift
Free, used old main leaves as AAL
Shock extensions:
$6 in front, used scrap steel in rear
Summary:
Full size 4x4 with 4" lift, 35" tires, locked front axle, 4.10's, winch, winch bumper, cold blowing a/c, hot blowing heat, working cruise, bucket seats, console, cup holders, everything for right around $1,000.
Everything is used, begged or borrowed. Took about 18 months to collect all of the parts beyond the initial purchase and get it running
Just proof budget builds don't have to be beaters and can still hit the rough stuff if necessary

Yeah man, I could say a Sterling 10.25 and Dana60 could do it some good!
Oh and you can't have that without throwing a 460 in it too..
I love my 460.. its so awesome. I love the power.![Smilie](images/smilies/happy0161.gif)
But hell, cup holders alone makes it a damn nice ride! I swapped in bucket seats and a center console with cup holders, never looked back. :P
