I'm looking to buy a 69 f-100 4x4 which the owner says has a 360 motor in it. I'd never heard of a ford 360 and can't find anything about it in my books. The truck's in excellent condition, i just need to find out about the motor. Thanks
Ford definately made a 360 engine. I was used for quite a few years too. They stopped being used in the trucks in 1976. They are part of the FE engine family and there are a few posts here to explain that. These engines put out quite a bit of power if they were tuned right. The 390 if you build it right can blow your mind. There is a wealth of info on these engines on the net too. Good luck with your pickup.
Fordman is right. The FE family are powerful engines and damn near built like a Sherman tank. I have a 390 in my F-250 ('67) and will it run. It is paired w/ a NP 435 tranny, Dana 21 t-case, a Dana 60 rear, a Dana closed knuckle 44 up front and 4.56 gears. It is a beast. It used to belong to a farmer and if FE's can stand up to a farmers torcher you know it is good.
Years ago I purchased a 1969 4x4 brand new. It was an excellent truck and I kept it for 10 years and put over 110,00 miles on it before I traded it infor a newer model. It had a 360 engine with a 2 barrel carb, and it ran like a top. I have kicked myself over and over for getting rid of that truck. If it is in as a good shape as you have said, I envy your purchase. The only addition I put on the truck was power steering and headers. Good luck.
