IP Problem?

I just changed my sons fuel filter and didn't fill it with DK, the truck started for a couple seconds then stalled, now nothing. We cracked the lines at the injectors and nothing is coming out of them, no fuel, I even took one off the injector and there is no fuel flowing. Is his IP bad?? Any suggestions?

You need to bleed the fuel filter. If you didn't fill the filter with anything, you are going to be cranking for a bit to get it filled. You may be further ahead to take the filter back off and at minimum fill it with fuel....

Nope, you got it cleared, but keep the injection lines cracked, you are getting there... If you put nothing in the filter, there was no way the motor was going to keep going. I've even had them die like that with fuel added to the filter, just have to purge and it will be fine.

Thanks, what concerns me is there's no sign of anything coming out of the fuel lines.

You had to get the filter filled first, then it has to get worked though the IP. It doesn't come through in large amounts, so it takes some time.

Remember, 20 seconds cranking, 2 minutes cooling time for the starter before cranking again.

When I changed my IP, it took for what seemed like forever before I started seeing anything at the injectors.
I even removed the IP cause I thought it wasn't pumping but it pumped on the bench so I put it back on. I bet I did 15 cylces of 20 seconds cranks.

I found if I disconnect the IP FSS before attempting a start or purging the lines after a filter change (filled filter) and do only a 15 second cranking, the fuel/air is usually past the IP. So then when you connect the FSS the metering valve opens and only allows fuel into the pump and injector lines. Ensure if you pre fill the filter you do it into the outer circle of holes..... the large hole is the filtered fuel area.

So you're saying to disconnect this and crank?

One more question I have, should I crack all 8 lines or just one? I've seen half say one, and the other half say all.

That is what he is saying, it will fill the holding area of the IP without putting it into the pressure head, and will clear out the return lines. I crack all 8 at the same time, hasn't ever been an issue so far, been doing it that way for years.
