I am installing a manual choke on an 86 f250 with 351 Windsor in it and have got it all installed but am having trouble setting the choke. I pull the choke and it opens but when I push it wont close the plate?. I have taken all the slack out of the line by cutting it to length but am having troubles with the pushing to close? Does anyone know the proper procedure or have instructions on how to set up a manual choke??? Thanks!
Hold the throttle to the floor and then work it back and forth. If it's working with the throttle open, all you have to do is open the choke with the cable, and then kick the throttle to let the door open. There is a fast idle cam and mechanism that holds the choke in position till the throttle is moved.
If it still won't work while holding the throttle open, I would suspect the cable is binding. How many twists and turns do you have in the cable? And you also have to make sure the cable is tied down. If not, the cable will move instead of the center piece moving the choke.
