2001 escape brake problem

2001 escape brake problem
to start it is a 2001 escape with 150,000 miles, V6 2wd and at no particular time the break pedal will just drop to the floor when you push on it but then will come back and be fine. i havent worked on the breaks recently or anything, Its making the car pretty unsafe to drive so i would really appreciate your help.
