Pick up the Escape, turn it upside down. Shake gently. The engine will drop out and leave room for the replacement.
Other people have had to change the front cover, crankshaft position sensor and toothed wheel, and the passenger side motor mount. If you read the other two posts currently going on this topic before asking, you would know a lot more.
