is 4" or 5" better, thanx again
Unless your friend can locate the fella he sold it too and set the truck back to stock, all you can do is read codes, but that ain't bad either. If you want real power, get a DP Tuner or PHP or a Tony Wildman chip just to name a few, theres others you can search but these are the tunes you want, nothing like um. As for the K-N, yep, get rid of it, people here that had it say they leak and I seen pics of the leaks. S-B are the only oil based filters that I know of that don't have a problem, they really proved themselfs in great filtering capabilities. Ernest Eugene here did a filtering test not to long ago and the S-B came out on top with the AIS I believe coming in second. If your not comfortable with the oiled element they have a dry one or go with the 6637, great filter there too. I have the MBRP duals with the muffler, I like it but I never had a straight pipe so I can't help you there..

The reason the k/n sucks is because it does not seal well to the stock filter box, if it is a drop in. The 6637 is your most economical choice. Beyond that they get more expensive. I have an AFE Stage 2, which was spendy and it is an oiled filter but it is reusable and I now I have 2 filters so no down time for cleaning. If I was to do it again I would go with the 6637.

big poppa is correct.

The number one success i get from my superchip is the trans does not search especially when driving around 45 mph, it constantly searched between drive and overdrive before the superchip.. No more searching.

I have to admit, the reason I got my SC was because of the shifting, stock and slow and it took forever to get into the next gear. I towed down to Lexington-Roanoke Va. without it with my 31 foot TT and I was burning fuel like no tomorrow, constant trans shifting up and down those hills, got the SC and went down 2 months later and the truck stayed in gear, was really pleased at the time. Now I'm really pleased I got the DP Tuner and J. Wood VB, its even better than that.

Veggie, get the instructions from HD......(or me)..... from the avatar you are an Excursion......you will have to deal with the PATS system and there is a special proceedure for Excursion or it will think you are trying to steal it and will not start afterward.
Also, FYI....The shift points are the best reason to have a 1705.....if you don't tow over 6k....run the second (perfomance/tow) setting......much better performance and fuel mileage. On mine, I have to knock it back to stock about every 3 months and reload it. It seems to re-learn some shift habits from my wife driving it.

thank you guys for all the input, i actually got the tuner today but i am at the station so i cant play around with it. he did give me the manual and the box and he said that before he got rid of his truck he did turn it back to stock.
i dont tow anything right now and if i do it will be below 6000 lbs. before i do this mod do i have to get an intake and exhaust or can i just play it safe for the next week until i can get the cash to have some fun?
thanx again guys i appreciate it

Do not lose any sleep with this tuner. Just sit in your truck and plug it in. The display tells you step by step instructions. This includes when to put the keys in the ignition.

I've been running mine for 3 years on performance/tow (no towing over 6000 lbs) with stock exhaust and stock intake. No problems whatsoever.
Like the man said, this thing is easy.....just follow the directions on the screen.........and use the PATS procedure for Excursion to get it going

I use the SC 1705 for now. The guy I bought the truck from gave me the tuner with it. I tow a 31ft 5th wheel with it on Tow safe. It drives great with it. I leave the truck on tow safe all the time. As I get money and do more mods I intend on getting a DP Tuner for more versatility.

I might consider that too......now that they have the F6 that is a downloader......I didn't like that add on chip taped into the ECU.
