2005 STX 4-Wheel Drive Issues

Ok, so I bought a 2005 F-150 STX extened cab 4wd in July. I bought it a little hastily, but as I'm sure you all have done, I fell in love with it. Anyway, now that its January in Ohio, I'm finding out that my 4wd isn't working properly. Last night was the kicker, as I was driving home from work in 5-6 inches of snow, and my 4wd was making clunking and grinding noises. This is my first 4wd, so my knowledge is limited. My best guess would be that the hubs are stripped and lot locking properly anymore. Any other thoughts or advice?
