i know this sounds stupid but can a starter freeze and not work? the last few mornings it's been in the teens and my truck won't turn over just clicks it's got batterys a year old in it and a year old starter just wondering if the starter could be to cold?? once it does finally turn over after messing with it for a while seems to work fine
I really doubt it's the starter. Copper wires do increase resistance though as temp goes down and they age and battery connections go bad in the winter. When you get a chance start by taking off all the big cable connections and cleaning them real good till they look new with sandpaper or a scotchbrite pad on a wizzwheel then hook them all back up tight. Ohm the cables while they are off too.
i just got new battery terminals to and but dielectric grease all over everything only thing i can think of is i had to drive threw some water that was over 2 feet deep 2 weeks ago to get to work and i'm pretty sure it got up to the starter could maybe for some reason it still have mositure in it and it be froze up?
I would think anything is possible in extreme cold....but the teens are not that bad.
I would tap the starter a couple times with a rubber mallet and see if that makes a difference. If you think that it did fill with water, take it off and bring it inside for a few hours. Can't hurt anything.
I would think if the light doesn't dim then it wouldn't be the batteries. maybe arc/short it on the solenoid? maybe try it in neutral? Check the little wire on the starter? Still if nothing maybe do what FARM69 said....watch yer head w/rubber mallet, lol

I stand corrected. Cold weather does some pretty tricky things to stuff.
it's only a year old starter but it's a oreily reman and it's got a lifetime warranty thank god so i'm gotta get a new one and i think it only froze because i had to drive the truck some water and it got wet and never dryed before the freeze i'm glad it's the easiest starter i ever changed out
