Hello my Ford enthisiast:
I got this little problem, I went to lower my 1972 f100 today, just the rear with lowering blocks and flipping the axle on top of the leafsprings. after that my truck vibrates between 2nd and 3rd gear. Two things im suspicious of the diferential is not sitting straight like it was originally, now is in an angle pointing down not more than 5 to 8 degrees and the other thing os that the rear now is compressing the shocks complettely so the is no shock absorption can you help me identify the problem? i thought since it has the u joint it would not make a big difference being in a slight angle.
It's most likely the pinion angle is off so you'll need some shims to correct it. As far as the shocks go you'll need to get some shocks that are for a lowered truck, your stock shocks are simply too long.
While I have never lowered a truck when you lift a truck the driveshaft has to be lenghtened, so it would be the other way when lowering do you have enough play in the slip yoke or is the driveshaft shoved up tight. Plus I second the pinion angle.
yeah!! you got it my pinion angle was off, had to undo a little welding and repositioned the axle to the correct angle and problem solved. now the shocks are shorter an but need to c notch the frame since the axle is hitting against the frame. future plans are to install bags on all four. i will post some pisc soon when the truck is more where i want it to be. i will take it this weekend to the flea market to hace the mexican style lettering which will say chaparrita consentida which translated is spoiled shortie. hell yeah
