Hey everyone I am having an intermittent no start on my dads 99 f350. I have tach movement when cranking so i believe that rules out the cps which has recently been changed anyway. I topped off the hpop reservoir. and checked The IPR connection which was slightly loose. Got it to start to times in a row. then no start. Shook IPR connection and tried multiple time sometimes would start sometimes not. Unfortunately i dont have a way to check codes but the ses light does come on when its not starting. Any ideas? thanks
WTS light function normally? Any smoke out the tailpipe while cranking? Superduty's have an electric fuel pump on the frame rail below the driver seat. Listen for it to come on and hum for 25 seconds after the key is turned on. If you don't hear the pump, you've either got a bad pump or an electrical circuit that's dead. Any chip? Fuel bowl full and has pressure?
Chris, If it were a bad IPR will it start if he disconnects it? I cannot remember.
Not for the IPR, that is the "metering" device (output) that regulates the amount of oil flow to the injectors. If it is "stuck" open, it's not going to start. If it is suspected that the IPR is stuck, tap the rear of the valve "LIGHTLY" with a small ball peen hammer or similar in an attempt to free the internal piston. After that procedure, there should at the least be a change in how the truck is acting if in fact the IPR is the problem.
Another FTE'r here (SkySkiJason) had remarkable results from just disassembling the IPR and reassembling it. He tried to capture any trash that may have been in there without success. Never the less, when he put it all back together, and reinstalled the IPR, the HPOP circuit was functioning as designed again.
