Intermittent Start, No communication with OBD Interface
Got a real pain in the backside going on. My 2002 7.3L (~90,000 miles) has an intermittent start issue. Sometimes it cranks up just fine. Other times it cranks good, but will not start. No smoke when it won't start. Not related to weather or temperature. Ran a scan tool (unknown which one as it was my trustworthy mechanic's). He told me sometimes the scan would communicate thru the OBD and other times it would not. When there was communication, truck started, when no communication, truck doesn't start. The obvious have been ruled out: relays, wiring, fuses, batteries, new alternator, ICP, GPR, fuel pump, and IPR. No codes from scan. Dealer has it now to replace the VSM (different issue with the intermittent windows/radio not working after it does start). So, bad EDM or PCM?? So rare and I would think that once they go, they go, not sometimes work and sometimes not work. But if it is, I can have the dealer swap those too. Really don't want to drop that kind of coin if not needed. Thoughts???
