I'm pretty sure my block heater isn't working. I've plugged it in over night a few times and haven't noticed any difference starting it. I checked the resistance across the plug and it's open. I'm hoping it's just a broken wire or bad plug, but haven't had a chance to take a look at it yet.
It starts without it fine. It was -10F the other day and she fired right up, idled smooth and filled my yard with white smoke. Didn't even have any trouble starting it at 9500 feet over the new years and it was 10F that day.
If I have to replace the actual element, I'll probably wait till the spring and change the coolant while I'm there. Is there a decent, semi easy to install, option that I can put in till I can get the block heater replaced? Anyone had any luck with the magnetic oil pan heaters?
Check right behind the plug end at the bumper. That is the common spot for a break in the wire. You can purchase a new plug end from the hardware store and cut and splice.
