Hello all, I'm new here, I had the # 2 cylinder plug blow the threads out, common problem for the 5.4 2000 f150, had the heads rebuilt at 152K, after that, I would get the check engine soon light about 3 days out of the week after a stutter and pinging, would go away after about 3 mins. Today, I drove the truck, and it started stuttering, and pinging for quite some time, didn't think I was going to make it, after I left, the truck ran like nothing was wrong. I know that the code is the # 4 cyl. misfiring, but I do not understand why the pinging? and why it is intermittent. Is my coil pack on # 4 going out, is there an ignition coil on this truck? Anyone know what my problem is? Help! Gary
pinging is not good on a engine.the pre-ignision can damage a piston.you could have a lean condition that is causing it,like astopped up fuel filter,a mass air flow meter that thinks its driving up pikes peak,or you could have a bunch of carbon built up on top of the pistons that is acting like a spark plug ignighting the fuel prematualy
I have a 2002 ford f150 harley edition with 5.4 supercharger...I am having a problem with it pinging..we have changed the fuel filter twice and cleaned the MAF sensor and it still pings when u get into it...if u just gradually excelerate it doesnt ping, but if ya go 2 pass or resume cruise it pings bad...i try 2 run 91 to 93 octane..but since we got this new fuel with ethinol it is hard 2 find without it...I put it on a machine and it says banks 1 & 2 are running lean...should i just go ahead and replace the MAF sensor or do i have another problem?
